IWM Duxford Get-Together

We are very pleased to confirm that following our extremely successful Get-Together in Berlin in 2017,

GITRACE will be holding it's next Get-Together on

Friday 4th October 2019

at a location we last visited in 2007

The Imperial War Museum Duxford

This time, we will be using the Concorde Suite within the new Airspace Conference Centre

The cost of the Get-Together itself will be £37.50 per head which includes:-

On the day, speakers will include our very own Julia Bell, Lucy Bland and Sally Vincent.

Julia Bell  - Most recently featuring on ITV's Long Lost Family, Julia has appeared as the 'DNA Detective' on various TV programmes, as well as being featured in the press and on the radio. Her speciality is difficult to solve' cases, where she uses DNA results and detective skills to unpick even the most complex cases, where leads are very few or non-existent. She has now solved numerous cases in the UK and overseas.

Lucy Bland - A Professor of Social and Cultural History at Anglia Riskin University, whose book 'Britain's Brown Babies: the stories of children born to black GIs and white women in the Second World War' has just been released and features a number of GITRACE members.

Dr Niels Zussblatt is hoping to attend but this is very much subject to US Government Budgetary and Agency approval.

As those that have been to previous events already know, these Get-Togethers also gives delegates time to meet friends old and new, to discuss their various searches and experiences and to seek help and advice about their continuing searches.

Additionally, there will be plenty of time to explore IWM Duxford and all its various exhibitions including:-

Full details available on the IWM Duxford website

And why not take the opportunity of making a weekend of the event by staying in the area and visiting King's College Chapel and other university buildings in Cambridge, punt down the River Cam or visit the The Eagle, where graffiti from World War II airmen cover the ceiling and walls - or slightly further a field, visit the Cambridge American Cemetery at Madingley?

Accommodation: For those wishing to extend their visit and stay locally on the night before the Get-Together and/or the night after, we have been able to reserve accommodation in nearby Whittlesford, at The Red Lion Hotel

and the adjoining Holiday Inn Express.

A limited number of rooms are being held for us at a special rate - but only until the end of July, or sooner if all taken!

The hotels are immediately adjacent to Whittlesford Parkway railway station, which has very regular direct trains to and from London Liverpool Street, Stansted Airport and Cambridge.

Evening Meals: Private dining has been arranged in the Garden Room at The Red Lion on both Thursday and Friday evenings for those wishing to join in.

On Thursday evening, we are proposing a Hot Buffet & Dessert and on Friday, a formal 3-course set meal.
